About

I created this website, with a view of the following:

1) to inform what gout is and what causes it

2) a personal reminder to myself on practising what I preach

3) to be a useful resource for newer sufferers who are at lost with all the information that the Internet can offer

My name is Hisham. I run a website on http://mhisham.org. This sub-site is also managed by me as I have been suffering from gout for more than 10 years.

[edit 25 Jan 2010] I am currently undergoing a trial drug known as Canakinumab. Check out the details here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canakinumab This trial will last until April. Hopefully, my condition will improve for the better.

This website will primarily be divided into two. First part are the pages, where I pen down all the necessary information that a gout sufferer needs to know. The second part are the blog posts, where I chronicle, at best memory what had happened to me so far and also to relate news of interest with regards to gout and its medical affiliations.

I hope you will leave your comments as I take on this very personal journey. For any further queries in-confidence, please do not hesitate to email me at contact@mhisham.org . All conversations will be treated with the strictest confidence.

Hey good take care of yourself and don't let friends worry…

It is with that in mind that i set up this site. So that friends will be aware of what actually is affecting me, such that they need not worry so much. It's gonna be with me for a long time, and as long as I educate you, on why it affects me, then it will hopefully eradicate this affliction.

Hi Hisham, sorry to hear abt this painful condition. I think i came across holistic approaches to treating or at least controlling/lessening the symptoms of Gout. I guess u have prob looked into them as well. Wish you well ya :)

    • Mohd Hisham says:

Hey Paris. Thanks for your well-wishes. Yes, I am always on the lookout for newer approaches. But I do keep in mind that the basis of most treatments do involve some form of basic & essential diet management. :)

    STOP SPAMMING OTHER SITES

    • Mohd Hisham says:

it would be good if you can actually specify clearly what you mean by spamming. From what im doing, i am clearly promoting other blogs which either discusses suffering from gout or working on the low purine diet.

it does help to be specific. i certainly know for sure that i don't go around spamming my own site.

  • hi,

Gout is a kind of arthritis that “flares” periodically—so the pain of gout is experienced as an attack. Gout attacks usually appear with no warning and leave sufferers in severe pain. In fact, gout is one of the most painful medical conditions. It's been compared with childbirth and bone fractures. Gout attacks usually last from 3 to 10 days and can cause knife-like pain, tenderness, redness, heat, and swelling in an affected joint. These are all signs of “inflammation,” so gout is sometimes called an inflammatory arthritis.

You experience the pain of gout when the excess uric acid forms needle-like crystals that deposit in your joints, causing your body to respond with inflammation (and pain) in these areas. If you have gout, you might have attacks as long as there are uric acid crystals remaining in your body. Also, if left untreated, uric acid crystals may form large deposits in and around joints.

  • hi,

Gout also can develop as a co-morbidity of other diseases, including polycythaemia, intake of cytotoxics, obesity, diabetes, hypertension, renal disorders, and hemolytic anemia. Gout is an important complication in a minority of solid organ transplant.

Gout can be triggered by the same agents that cause potassium losses such as fasting, surgery, and potassium losing diuretics. Gout is a form of arthritis that affects mostly middle-aged men and postmenopausal women. Gout is a disease that results from an overload of uric acid in the body.

Gout has the unique distinction of being one of the most frequently recorded medical illnesses throughout history. Gout arthritis is typically an extremely painful attack with a rapid onset of joint inflammation. People with gout are usually advised to reduce their intake of purine-rich foods.

Gout attacks can be controlled or prevented by lifestyle changes and the use of certain medications. Gouty joints show the most visibly red signs of inflammation of any of the 100 types of arthritis. Gout is a painful type of arthritis caused by the buildup of uric acid crystals in and around the joints. Gout is caused by uric acid crystals deposited in the body's tissues which lead to recurrent attacks of joint inflammation.

    thank you

  • After much running about I have found relief from gout using safe natural therapies based on ayurveda, resonance homeopathy and herbs.
Advances in natural medicines and clinical trials have now made it possible develop therapies which give quick relief and cure from gout symptoms and prevent recurrence. You must have a look at Biogetica's (VCA Pro C, T24, C38) simple yet brilliant method, they maintain optimal levels of uric acid in the body and excrete excess fluid from the body. Their anti-inflammatory properties reduce pain and inflammation.

  • I was just talking with my friend about this yesterday at lunch . Don’t remember how we landed on the subject really, they brought it up. I do recall eating a wonderful chicken salad with sunflower seeds on it. I digress…

  • hi all,

I was wondering what would be the best way to get a good intake of protein. Which proteins would be best? Rice protein maybe? Please help. I work out on a normal basis and feel that I am not making any progress due to the lack of proteins/amino acids for recovery and building of new muscle. Thanks in advance for any help.
